Creator God, creating still, vast and uncontained,
we are never without your presence.
You move in and through us always and everywhere, beyond the scope of our understanding.
We open ourselves to Your presence within and around us here today.
But for many of us this week you have never felt further
Peace and hope and rest have never felt further away
This week has been about sorrow and anger, tears and protest.
The structures that this world builds promise security for the few, Lord.
The structures that this world builds suffocate, deny, kill.
Holy God, we come into this place, in this season of waiting,
seeking breathe, seeking justice, seeking you.
Make for us a way out of no way.
As we call out the idols of white supremacy, capitalism, death
May “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” and “I Can’t Breathe” be our songs to you.
Embolden our hearts, hear the prayers we sound with each step in these streets,
In all of your transcendence, in your perfect immanence,
Prepare for us, with us, and through us a world of justice that will be established forever.
Advent IV. 2 Samuel 7:1-16.
